Liebe Schwestern!

Mit diesen Zeilen möchte ich Ihnen ein wenig über die zurückliegende erste Woche des Generalkapitels berichten.

Spätestens im Laufe der ersten Juliwoche waren die Delegierten, die Übersetzerinnen, die Sekretärinnen und alle übrigen Helferinnen des Generalkapitels nach Paderborn angereist. Für die Mehrzahl der Schwestern war es eine lange und anstrengende Reise, ein „Sprung“ von einem Kontinent zum anderen mit Klima- und Zeitumstellung, was erst einmal verkraftet werden musste. So tat es allen gut, dass wir ein wenig Zeit zum Ankommen innerlich und äußerlich hatten.

Am Sonntag, dem 8. Juli trafen wir uns am Abend in der Kapelle des Exerzitienhauses zu einem meditativen Wortgottesdienst. Wir begleiteten die Drei Weisen auf ihrem Weg vom Morgenland zum neugeborenen Jesuskind und reflektierten dabei unseren eigenen Weg vom letzten Generalkapitel bis heute. Ähnlich wie die Drei Weisen, die auf einem anderen Weg heimkehrten – das könnte heißen, die durch die Begegnung mit Jesus andere geworden sind, - hoffen auch wir, dass Jesus sein Bild immer mehr in uns ausprägt und dass wir so neu bestärkt mehr und mehr „lebendiges Gedächtnis des Lebens und Wirkens Jesu“ werden.

Zur eigentlichen Eröffnung des Generalkapitels feierte Herr Erzbischof Becker in Konzelebration mit Prälat Kresing und Pater Anthony McSweeney SSS (dem Moderator des Kapitels) mit uns und mit der Mutterhausgemeinschaft eine feierliche Messe zum Heiligen Geist.

Montag und Dienstag waren angefüllt mit den üblichen Vorarbeiten, wie Wahl der Stimmenzählerinnen, der Sekretärin des Generalkapitels und so fort.

Ein wichtiger inhaltlicher Tagesordnungspunkt war die Besprechung des Berichtes der Generaloberin. Schwester Adalberta nahm sich viel Zeit zur Beantwortung der Fragen, ihre Informationen gaben ein immer deutlicheres Bild vom Stand der Kongregation.

Ebenfalls viel Zeit verwendete Schwester DeSales als Generalveralterin am Dienstag, um den Finanzbericht vorzustellen. Es war wahrlich keine „leichte Kost“, aber Schwester DeSales verstand es, die schwierige Materie im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes in einer Power-Point-Präsentation anschaulich und verständlich zu vermitteln.

Schließlich starteten wir am Mittwoch mit der Arbeit an den Vorschlägen zu den revidierten Konstitutionen. Vier Tage lang, bis Samstag einschließlich, arbeiteten wir in vier Gruppen an den Kapiteln I bis VI. Jede Gruppe begann mit bestimmten Kapiteln. Nach einem ausgeklügelten System wurden die Ergebnisse jeweils mit anderen Gruppen ausgetauscht, so dass am Ende der Woche jede Gruppe sich mit allen entsprechenden Kapiteln beschäftigt hatte. Damit war der Weg bereitet, um zu Entscheidungen zu kommen. So können im Laufe der nächsten Woche Plenarsitzungen stattfinden und dann die ersten Abstimmungen zu den Konstitutionen beginnen. Mögen sie zu einem guten Ergebnis gelangen.

Ebenso wichtig wie die zum Teil anstrengende Arbeit sind immer wieder die „Ruhepunkte“, die wir in den morgendlichen Messfeiern und in den Zeiten der Anbetung finden. Es sind besonders berührende Momente, wenn jeweils eine der Schwestern vor der morgendlichen Sitzung oder manchmal auch am Nachmittag ihr persönliches Christusbild vorstellt. So wird uns immer wieder neu erfahrbar, in wie viel Gesichtern Gott Mensch wird.

Den heutigen Sonntag haben wir als einen Tag der Einkehr begangen in Vorbereitung auf die am Montag vorgesehene Wahl der Generaloberin und die Wahlen der Generalassistentinnen am Mittwoch. Über den Ausgang der Wahlen werden Sie umgehend informiert.

Greetings from Paderborn! Today I can say from a sunny Paderborn: It has been raining every day. However that has not dampened the spirits of the Chapter members. Monday we began with an inspiring Holy Mass offered by Archbishop Becker. Seven candles were brought in with the Entrance procession, representing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and also the five Provinces, the Philippine Unit and the Generalate. These candles now form part of the Center piece in the chapter Hall. Each day we begin with a half hour of Adoration in the Retreat House chapel. When we later assemble in the Hall a Sister presents a picture of Jesus and what it means to her. We are reminded each day in this way of being a reflection of Jesus in our life.

Once each week a province will have the opportunity to present an explanation of the culture of the areas in which the province is located and also the various activities in which the Sisters are engaged. This week the Generalate and the Philippine Unit had that opportunity.

Monday Sr. Adalberta officially opened the Chapter with an inspiring talk which you can find on our Web page. Sister Adalberta then responded to comments or questions that the Sisters had regarding her report.of the status of the Congregation.. You will be receiving a copy of this in the Fall. Fr. McSweeney also explained the procedures that we would follow during our sessions.

Tuesday was a busy day for Sr. DeSales. She very simply explained the Finances of the Provinces and of the Congregation as a whole. She used a power point presentation to make her explanation very clear. Fr. McSweeney also gave a powerful presentation on the seven demons that we face in the challenge of living Religious Life. I am sure you will hear more of this eventually.

From Wednesday on we have had three days of intensive study of the revised constitutions. We are divided into four international groups so that each group has at least one member from each province. Each groups discussed a specific chapter of the constitutions and now we are sharing the results of our discussions with the other groups. We hope to just about finish Chapters 1-6 by today, Saturday.

Friday evening we had a reconciliation service. It was based on the idea of cups. We saw our selves as cups that need to be empty of hurts, judgments and so forth in order to be filled with God.

That about brings us up to date on the progress of our chapter. It has been a time of intense listening to our Sisters and the Spirit as we strive to give birth to a Constitution that will bring us ever more deeply into the Heart of Christ and help us to be a true reflection of Christ in our wounded world.

Dear Sisters,

As the first week of the chapter comes to an end, I would like to give you an insight into the work we have been doing. It has been a very full week.

Everyone arrived by the morning of July 6 and that afternoon we had our first gathering to test the microphone, translation and voting equipment. The company had set all up in the morning, and now we all had to learn how to use it. Sister Carol and Sister Mary Dominic received some special instructions on how to manage the system. Sister Adalberta has put some pictures of our meeting room on this site, so please do take some time to look at them. It will help you to better understand what I may say. On Saturday morning we had a preliminary session to take care of logistics.

During the afternoon on Saturday or Sunday (2 groups) we had the opportunity to visit Dahlheim, an old monastery, first for women and then for Augustinians. It has been restored and is now a very interesting museum. Then on Sunday evening we had an opening prayer service that Sister Angelika had prepared. It brought us from the last General Chapter to today and provided very good material for reflection.

Archbishop Becker, celebrated the opening Mass on Monday morning. Msgr. Kresing and Father Tony concelebrated. At the opening we carried seven candles in procession, representing the five provinces, the Philippine Unit and the Generalate, but also symbolizing the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. At the end of Mass these were carried to the Chapter Room and burn during our prayer each day. During the Prayer of the Faithful, we carried our current Constitutions, the Draft of the revised Constitutions, the proposals, the letters to Jesus that we had written during the opening prayer service as well as the bread, water and wine. Each province was represented along with the Generalate and the Philippine Unit.

The first two days were in plenary session. We open each day with a half-hour of adoration. Since our theme of the Chapter is to be a living memory of Jesus, each chapter delegate was asked to bring their favourite picture of Jesus and to share a reflection. It is a very beautiful way to open each day and to get to know each other better on a deeper level. On the first day of the Chapter we elected the tellers and the secretary and also the three Sisters who will approve the financial report. We also asked each province for one person to help to write the Chapter Document. In the afternoon Sister Adalberta answered questions on her report and clarified some points. It was a full day. We have adoration and two sessions in the morning and then two more sessions in the afternoon. On Tuesday I presented my financial report. Because we can use PowerPoint, I was able to give a graphic picture of the status of each province, the Generalate and the Philippine Unit and then of the Congregation as a whole. I think the Sisters were pleased.

On Wednesday we began our work on the Constitutions. We are divided into four groups, with a member of each province in each. The translators help in the groups where needed. Each group was assigned a chapter or chapters of the Constitutions to review, along with the proposals received. If a change was needed, we reformulated the article, and then shared our work with each of the other groups. Each group studied what they received from each other group and came up with their own conclusions, which they then shared with the original group. The Sisters liked the process and we were able to accomplish very much. The Sisters of the Generalate meet each evening with Father Tony to go over the day and plan for the next.

So we have been busy, but we do take time to visit Mother Pauline’s grave each day and remember you and all your intentions. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Greetings from Sr. Joan Daniel and all the Sisters.

ya pasó una semana completa del Capítulo General. Pero hemos palpado claramente la presencia del Señor entre nosotras, en cada momento. Eso se debe, sin duda, a las oraciones que todas Uds. y nuestros Asociados nos han regalado..

Tenemos mucho que agradecerles, a Uds., queridas Hermanas, a nuestros Asociados, a los niños del Colegio de Martínez y a tantas otras personas que están rezando por nuestro Capítulo. Las cartas de los niños están a la vista para disfrutar de su candor y sencillez, en la sala capitular.

La semana pasada tuvimos días de invierno, con frío, mucho viento y abundantes lluvias día y noche. Pero hoy comenzó bruscamente el calor, hasta 28° C.

El sábado pasado tuvimos ocasión de visitar un Museo en otra ciudad cercana, Dalheim, en un monsterio del comienzo de la cristianización de Alemania en el año 798, donde habitaron primero monjas, y luego más de 200 monjes agustinos. En tiempos de la secularización, mucho se perdió o se quemó. No hace muchos años que han estado haciendo excavaciones y han aparecido restos importantes de los primeros monasterios. El museo contiene ricos documentos y reliquias, fotos y pinturas antiquísimas. Hay pinturas del tiempo de las monjas en que las abadesas aparecen vestidas con todo su esplendor al estilo mundano, más parecen reinas, incluso con esclavos a su servicio.. Es todo muy interesante, extraordinariamente bien instalado. Hay también un gran jardín, con plantas, separadas las de uso culinario, de las de adorno, con una fuente de agua en el medio. Esta parte es una de las descubiertas últimamente. Es todo muy interesante por su antiguedad, valor histórico y religioso.

El 9 recordamos el día de la Independencia de Argentina. No fue mucho lo que pudimos celebrar con nuestras Hermanas argentinas porque era el día de inauguración del Capítulo y casi no hubo momento adecuado para hacerlo, a no ser en las comidas.

Ese día celebró la Misa el Sr. Arzobispo de Paderbnorn, en la Capilla de la Casa Madre. Los concelebrantes fueron el Padre Tony, nuestro moderador, y el Prelado Kressing, quienes luego tomaron el desayuno con nosotras.

Siguieron los días de trabajo tal como estaban previamente organizados, hasta hoy, tarde y mañana. Además en el Consejo General nos reunimos cada tarde, después de la cena con el Padre Tony para revisar lo realizado en el día y prever lo que se puede alcanzar al día siguente. Casi siempre terminamos el día de trabajo cerca de las 21,15 hrs.

Cada día tenemos la Misa en la Capilla de la Casa de Ejercicios, el Padre Tony predica brevemente en Inglés y en Español, pero cada grupo de idioma tiene días asignados para el grupo respectivo. Llevamos las ofrendas y recibimos la Comunión bajo ambas especies. Sister Mary Edward nos acompaña con el órgano, lo cual solemniza cada celebración y levanta el espíritu con su arte magistral.

Me parece que tanto en Argentina como en Uruguay y Chile han estado o están disfrutando de las vacaciones de invierno. Quiera Dios que nadie se enferme con los intensos fríos que han experimentado. Hemos visto fotos en internet sobre la extraordinaria nevazón en Buenos Aires. Aunque haya sido un espectáculo maravilloso, hay que pensar también en tantos pobres que no tienen cómo guarecerse del frío, ¿cómo podrían soportar ese hielo que cala hasta los huesos?

Mis queridas Hermanas, les deseo días placenteros, de paz, alegría y mucha esperanza. Entraremos en otra semana muy importante del Capítulo con los dos días de elecciones.
